What Are The GSA Advantage Benefits?

Introduction: As a result of Hoover Commission, the U.S. government established the GSA or General Services Administration, on 01st of July, 1949. The main motto of GSA is to GSA is to deliver the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to government as well as to the American people. GSA’s ecommerce site is known as GSA Advantage. The site is primarily government product based. This is an online buying-selling platform run by the General Services Administration or GSA. 

The GSA Advantage benefits are –

  • This online shopping and ordering platform gives access to thousands of contractors and millions of suppliers to buy and sale their products and services. Customers can browse on GSA Advantage to see through and compare the wide range of products and services offered by the government.
  • GSA Advantage is an online ordering platform, only for government buyers, who can purchase one’s products and services. The site can be browsed by anyone, but only government employees can become the buyers here. In order to upload the products and services to GSA Advantage benefits portal, always use the Schedule Input Program (SIP).
  • Using SIP program, one can do any changes in terms of pricing/products etc. on the respective site. this site can be used as tool to find out what kind of products or services the competitors are exhibiting or uploading for sale. Thus, you can control or take an upper hand for your website.

There is a statement GSA has issued through Vendor Support Center that the recent GSA Advantage! System upgrades have resulted in a huge backlog of contractor catalog. According to GSA, they are “currently working a backlog of 6.7M products from January 17th on.”

Employees working under the Federal government are eligible to purchase from GSA Advantage by using:

  • A government-wide commercial purchase card – this is a smart pay option
  • By using a GSA Activity Address Code (AAC); or
  • A Department of Defense Activity Address Code (DoDAAC) (limited to purchases of GSA Global Supply items).

GSA has recently been completed a two-year renovation process of the GSA Advantage! website.

Changes include:

  • Enhancement of search/research/purchase capabilities for buyers
  • Posted photos with products should be in high resolution
  • Order tracking system to be streamlined

GSA is giving assurance that the price reductions have been processed immediate basis, price up-down is being handled on first in, first out basis. Catalogs which are displayed on Advantage! may be affected by “display inaccuracies including missing products”. It is suggested to any contractors, who are receiving electronic orders through GSA Advantage! Should review them carefully for mismatch in pricing if any. GSA is putting effort to address such problems to increase GSA Advantage benefits; however, there is no estimated time frame has been fixed. Meanwhile, be sure to review your Advantage!
